Love this book! There are so many practical ideas for how to engage students in their own learning from day 1! I like how Patty Vitale Reilly gets right to the point and shares many easy-to-implement strategies for increased engagement. I have been in education for 18 years, feel that I have a good handle on student engagement, and yet I was able to obtain numerous new and easy ways to hook the students to become more engaged in their own learning. I have always been a firm believer that students must first be engaged and want to learn in order for any true learning to occur and I appreciate reading about some new ways to engage students. I especially like the section in which she shared the importance of needing to first be a truly engaged learner ourselves before we can expect our students to be engaged. She listed great professional sites and ways I can easily step up my own engagement- so critical if I expect my students to do the same. I highly recommend this quick read, chock full of tips to easily implement in the elementary classroom.
